August 2021
Welcome back to the Waubay School District 18-3
Back-to-school is always an exciting time of the year, but for Waubay School, it is especially exciting this year. We improved infrastructure by significantly upgrading our heating and cooling systems. We improved curriculum by overhauling and implementing a new secondary English Language Arts curriculum and a new elementary Science and Social Studies curriculum. Finally, we improved team building and cohesion by implementing a new Professional Learning Community for all our staff, so we may better engage our students.
There have been some logistical changes, as well. Our sixth grade returned to the elementary side of the building and will be self-contained with one teacher for all core classes. We are delighted to welcome many new staff to our school, including:
Mr. Marvin Allison, Title 1 paraprofessional
Mr. Adam Calhoon, secondary Social Studies, Health
Ms. Heather Gaikowski, secondary Paraprofessional
Mr. Curtis Huffman, middle school Teacher (beginning January 2022)
Ms. Caitlin Johnson-Gaikowski, elementary Paraprofessional
Ms. Sharon Johnson, secondary Art (part-time)
Ms. Chelsey Lutter, secondary English Language Arts
Ms. Jenny Mathiason, Kitchen
Mr. Jerry Wegleitner, secondary Science
And we are grateful for all returning and veteran staff, especially some who have changed jobs:
Ms. Kari Berger, eMentor & Athletic Director
Ms. Marsha Block, Technology Coordinator
Ms. Ashley Coon, Sixth Grade Teacher
Ms. Shonda Holscher, PE/Health Teacher
Most of all, we are thrilled to welcome back students to school, to share our improvements and our hope for a fantastic year. Of course, we will all be cheering on our sports teams and extracurricular activities, especially our Grizzlies Football team, as they compete at the 11B level this year.
Go Grizzlies!
Go Mustangs!
Go Dragons!
Alan L. Neville, Ed.D., Superintendent
