Hello Waubay School District! I am Miss Thompson, and I am here to introduce you to our new program in our high school called JAG, or Jobs for America’s Graduates. The goal of JAG is to connect students with tools for success and empower them to graduate with a high school diploma, while exploring careers opportunities. JAG focuses on project-based learning and work-based learning experiences. In my classroom we discuss where we want to go in life after high school and what steps it takes to get there. Through classroom activities, speakers, and tours of businesses, we are learning about different career opportunities after graduation. We work towards the goals after graduation of either employment, education, or enlistment.
We have started out this year strongly as we are navigating adding a new program to our school. So far this year, we have had Day County Law Enforcement and our own janitor, Bruce, come in to speak to our classroom. We also went on a tour of Northland Auto and The Dakota Foundry to learn about careers in the area. We are working on lining up more opportunities for speakers and tours as we continue through this year!
I wanted to introduce this program to our community as this program thrives on being involved with the community. If you would like to learn more about JAG and our goals, or you own or work in a business that you would like to speak to my class or have us come tour, please reach out to me!
