The Waubay Middle School students participated in the 2025-2026 Watertown Elks Lodge 838 essay contest. The objective of the contest is to develop students’ writing talents and their spirit of patriotism. Each student from first to fourth place receives a monetary prize and the top three finishers of each division will be sent on to complete at the state level. The top three finishers at the state level will then advance to the national level. The contest was held among area schools in the northeastern region of South Dakota.
Waubay Middle School had five students that placed in the top five of their respective classes. Gabriella Lane placed first in 7th grade. In 8th grade: Aiden Butler placed first, Shaelyn Galloway placed second, Phoebe Bourasa placed third, and Trace Gaikowski placed fourth.
Good luck to Gabriella, Aiden, Shaelyn, and Phoebe at the state level.
